THE FIRST MAGNESIUM ALLOY ENGINEERING PROJECT OF BERIS ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH (QINGHUANGDAO) CORPORATION KICKS OFF

On June 16, 2014, the first magnesium alloy project undertaken by BERIS Engineering and Research (Qinhuangdao) Corporation 每 the wide magnesium alloy plates and magnesium alloy products project of Zhenmeng Magnesium Alloy Co., Ltd. in Suide, Shaanxi Province with annual capacity of 15,000 tons 每 started setting-out work and excavation.


This Zhenmeng magnesium project is a magnesium alloy processing project. As planned, a semi-continuous casting production line will be put into production by the end of 2014 to produce 15,000-ton/a qualified magnesium alloy slabs and, by the end of 2015, a rolling workshop will be put into production of 500-ton/a products of 1000mm~1200mm wide high-precision magnesium alloy plates.


This project has already made about 300 thousand square meter requisition of land and its construction is divided into three stages. The construction content of first stage is raw material handling plant and semi-continuous casting plant, the construction content of the second stage is rolling laboratory and extrusion plant, and the construction content of the third stage is military product plant and rolling plant. By now, most engineering work of the first stage in this project has been finished, the construction contractor, ※CMTCC Shanghai Shisanye Construction Co., Ltd.§, has already moved in the site and the project is expected to enter the full-scale construction period soon.


Magnesium alloy has features of low density, high specific strength, high specific elasticity modulus, good heat dissipation, good shock absorption, better capacity to bear impact load than aluminum alloy and good corrosion resistance of organic matters and alkali. It is mainly used in such sectors as aviation, aerospace, transportation, chemical engineering, rockets, etc.. Specific gravity of magnesium is about two thirds of aluminum and one quarter of iron. As the lightest one among practical metals, magnesium has high intensity and rigidity. Benefiting from the transformation and upgrade of Chinese automobile industry, computer, communication, consumer electronics and some other industries as well as the remarkable improvement of China*s economic status, the market of magnesium alloy industry looks promising. Demand for light weight and environmental protection of automobile industry, especially the development of new energy automobile, and continuous improvement of magnesium alloy*s research and development and recycling technology are all good news for magnesium alloy*s widespread application. Meanwhile, the application of magnesium alloy in pharmaceutical chemicals, aerospace industry and electronic products is also growing. It is expected that global magnesium alloy market will reach 6 million tons in 2015 with CAGR at about 20%-25%.


BERIS Engineering and Research (Qinhuangdao) Corporation will take the opportunity of this project to enter the engineering industry of magnesium alloy, thus broadening engineering field, expanding business scope and realizing a high-quality improvement of engineering work.
